Pinus mugo - Dwarf Mountain Pine / Swiss Mountain Pine - 20 seeds

This slow growing dwarf Pine grows 1 - 3m tall in its native habitat in high elevations of central Europe growing 60 -90cm in 10 years forming a tight globe shaped mound with a broad spreading habit.
 
It has one or more curved trunks with thin ash grey brown to blackish grey bark that splits in angular scaly patches on the older stems and has  shiny dark green needle like leaves.
 
Usually monoecious, rarely subdioecious, male cones are 10mm long, yellow or red in colour and female cones are 5cm long, starting off as purple and ripening to a dark matte brown colour.
 
It is adaptable to a wide range of soils and conditions but prefers lightly sandy loams with well drained soil and is a great choice for Japanese style gardens, containers, Mediterranean style gardens and as a fabulous Bonsai specimen.
