Hakea coriacea is one of about 140 Hakea, all endemic to Australia and varying greatly in habit, leaf shape and flower colour. This one is an erect narrow leaved shrub with tapered creamy pink flower spikes 20cm long presenting a superb visual effect and all-in-all an outstanding ornamental plant. Although growing to 7.5m in its natural habitat in Western Australia it rarely exceeds 4.5m in cultivation. In Australia it flowers from early Winter until mid Spring, although this is somewhat dependent on location, both birds and bees are attracted to its nectar producing flowers.Propagation is easy from seed which germinates in 3 - 4 weeks, good drainage and a sunny position are best and staking is beneficial.
