Eucalyptus urnigera, commonly known as Urn Gum is a small woodland tree to tall tree to approximately 12m in height and takes its common name from the urn-like gumnuts.  It occurs naturally in the Tasmanian South Eastern Highlands where it grows on high mountains and plateaus in woodland, it's one of the hardiest of the Eucalypts regularly taking temperatures to - 12°C with the danger of permanent damage in the range from -14 to -19°C.

Bark is smooth throughout, attractive in a range of colours ranging from white-grey to yellow or pink and is often found decoriating in strips from the tree.

Juvenile foliage is an attractive, orbicular and glaucous (blue) in colour, adult leaves are broad-lanceolate, to 10cm long and 2cm wide, bluish-grey in colour.

Flowers, occurring from Summer to Autumn and are an intense white colour.

This is an attractive cold climate Eucalypt with some versatility tolerating quite intense cold and drought and can be coppiced and hedged.  The glaucous blue juvenile foliage is a popular floristry item.
Being a lignotuberous species it can regenerate after fire or cold damage from its underground tuber.

It requires a position in full sun and as it is a shallow-rooting species it is best in a position sheltered from strong winds.

Eucalyptus urnigera reportedly grows well in Britain as far north as the Scottish lowlands.
