Eucalyptus preissiana, commonly known as the Bell Fruited Mallee is a spreading Mallee shrub to some 4m in height and 3m in width with large thick leaves and fibrous dark grey bark.  The smooth bark sheds in ribbons from the upper branches.  New foliage has a dull slate colour and a peppermint scent when crushed.

From Spring to Summer it produces an attractive display of conspicuous large flowers, greenish in colour maturing to a vibrant yellow and has unusual, prominent fruits for a Eucalypt and these are popular in the flower trade.

Best in well drained soils in a sunny site, this one is frost sensitive while young and needs protection for at least the first year but frost resistance increases with size and maturity.  Left to its own resources it can develop a rather unruly habit and it is a good idea to prune to promote a bushy shape.
