Eucalyptus perriniana is an outstanding member of the 800 or so Australian gum trees and is a small evergreen tree from 4.5 - 9m in height and 2.5m in width with an open weeping habit. It is commonly known as spinning gum as the juvenile foliage completely circles the stem and over time deteriorates and separates from the stem, spinning in the wind.
It features smooth bronze bark that weathers to a white-green or grey often with a low ruff of persistent bark at the base and has very attractive silvery juvenile foliage maturing to an olive to grey-green with the silvery juvenile foliage most often persisting on mature trees. It produces profuse attractive white flowers. It is a frost resistant and cold hardy species and is moderately drought tolerant once established, to about 60cm per year and in its natural habitat in the high ranges of southern New South Wales, Eastern Victoria and Tasmania it frequently experiences extended periods of cold to -15°C. In frosty, snow prone areas of the northern hemisphere the tree can be reduced back to its permanent root system reshooting from the lignotuber in the early Spring. This tree is an excellent small foliage species and one of the very best for cut or dried foliage popular in the floristry trade.50 premium quality seeds shipped on receipt of cleared funds.
