Corymbia ficifolia syn Eucalyptus ficifolia - Red Flowering Gum - 30 seeds
Myrtaceae - no shipment to Western Australia or Tasmania
The Red Flowering Gum is probably the best known of the ornamental flowering gums because of the spectacular flowers that are normally produced during the Summer months.
The colour can range from vermillion through a variety of shades of red to pink, infrequently cream or white, but is most normally a delightful mid red colour. On a good specimen the flowers can almost hide the foliage when fully blooming with the year round flower clusters to one foot making a magnificent display.
The fruit that follows are large pendulous gum nuts that are an additional attractive feature. The tree can grow from 4.5 - 6m or more, has attractive rough bark with thick dark green leaves.
Originally from Western Australia this tree is now grown extensively throughout the world and has adapted to a very wide range of conditions although it is not generally suited to tropical or subtropical areas. Once established it is frost tolerant, but young trees need some protection from heavy frost. This tree will grow well on heavy soils.
