Clematis microphylla - Old Man's Beard/Small Leaved Clematis - 20 seeds

An Australian native climber with white flowers and interesting fluffy seeds!
 
This dioecious Aussie native grows as a woody vine or climber 2 - 4m tall x 2 - 4m wide and is found naturally growing in dry and wet forests of QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS and SA.
 
Creamy white star shaped flowers occur from Winter to Spring, male and female flowers occur on different plants, the female plants develop fluffy cotton wool like fruits with multiple seeds clustered at the ends of stems. The seeds are light brown, ovate in shape and are attached to a long feathery plume to 5cm long.
 
Indigenous Australians used this plant medicinally and as a bush tucker plant but has to be prepared properly and also decoratively.
It is also a nesting site for native birds and also attracts bees.
 
Best in well drained soils, is moderately frost tolerant and is drought tolerant in full sun to part shade.
