Billardiera scandens is commonly known as Apple Dumplings and is native to the cool moist forests of SE Australia (New South Wales, Victoria South Australia and Tasmania), it is an evergreen climber that grows to 2.5m in height.
The narrow elliptic, soft green evergreen foliage is attractive and the creamy yellow yellow-green pendulous tubular flowers make an attractive showing throughout the Spring and Summer, these are followed by showy edible green berries in the late Summer and Autumn. The common name of Apple Dumplings comes from the fruit which tastes very like stewed apples!
Apple dumplings can take full sun to light shade in virtually any soil except waterlogged, it is frost hardy and moderately drought resistant.
It makes an excellent fast growing plant for covering shaded fences, arches or pergolas or as a potted specimen.
