This evergreen (or briefly deciduous in very dry conditions) small tree with a spreading crown grows 1 - 6m in height and has bark that sheds in flakes, the foliage is a mid green colour and is held in small pairs that are up to 2.5cm across - they look like little Butterfly wings.

In Spring to Summer, showy white flowers to 7cm wide open up to reveal striking red anthers, these are followed by flat seed pods 10 - 20cm long x 3 - 3.5cm across that ripen to brown and enclose wide flat seeds.

It is endemic to QLD and is a small tree of the drier areas occurring in NE QLD, central Eastern QLD and south down to SE QLD growing naturally in granatic, basaltic, calcareous soil, on sandstone, in clay or grey sand, on creek banks, in vine thicket, woodland, dry rainforest or in Brigalow scrub.

Best grown in full sun in fertile well drained but moisture retentive soil in the subtropics and tropics.

10 premium quality seeds shipped on receipt of cleared funds.
