Banksia pilostylis, commonly  known as the Marsh Banksia, is a  shrub to 4m in height that is found naturally on the Esperance Plains on the south coast of Western Australia.

It is an attractive, many branched shrub with dense foliage made up of long saw toothed silvery-grey leaves.
Strongly scented cylindrical spikes of cream to yellow flowers occur from Spring to Summer and produce a lot of nectar, attracting Honeyeaters and other small nectar feeding animals.  They make good cut flowers.

It  makes an excellent container plant and can be used as a low windbreak, prefers a well-drained sandy soil but is also adaptable to occasional swampy conditions.  Tolerant of part shade it will flower more profusely in full sun.
Also tolerates coastal exposure as well as drought and moderate frost and benefits from light pruning to maintain shape.
