Banksia ornata - Desert Banksia - 5 seeds

Banksia ornata, commonly known as the Desert Banksia, is a bushy shrub up to 3m in height found naturally in western Victoria and south eastern South Australia in deep sand in heath, Mallee and occasionally, in low woodlands. 
 
Bark is a thin finely fissured grey, the leaves are wedge shaped, serrated, hirsute and from 3 to 11cm in length and narrow, from 4 to 25mm in width.  The blooms are cylindrical, from 5 to 11cm long and 7 to 8cm in diameter, cream in colour with a greyish limb borne on short lateral branchlets on the older stems and aging to a deep bronze and they can be present at any time throughout the year but appear primarily in Winter and Spring. 
 
This is a bushy fast growing shrub that will flower from seed in 3 to 5 years. 
As with most Banksias it is bird attracting, it is best in sandy, well drained soils in full sun or partial shade in a hot, dry climate and is moderately frost hardy and drought resistant.
