This is an Australian native rainforest species that grows as a tree in its native habitat of subtropical eastern Australia reaching heights of to 7m tall but usually only approximately 3m in cultivation so is perfect for a home garden.  It has dense foliage with ovate light green leaves that age to dark green that have a cinnamon fragrance when crushed,
these leaves are picked straight from the tree and can be used in sweet and savoury dishes as well as teas or dried as a herb.
 
The flowers are creamy white and occur in the Summer months, these then produce the seed capsules that contain the seeds, we are selling these whole to maintain the freshness of the seed inside.
Backhousia myrtifolia tolerates dry conditions and grows well in most soils and climates.  Can be pruned to maintain a desired height and bushiness.
Can be used as a small shade tree, screen an edible hedge, in parks and gardens and attracts birds, bees and insects.
