This is a lovely little tufted herbaceous perennial growing 0.2 - 1m x 0.2 x 0.8m tall with green narrow, linear, flat leaves 10 - 60cm long x 1 - 10mm wide, open petalled chocolate scented deep pink to mauve, rarely blue flowers with purple and yellow anthers, these are held on erect stems to 35mm long in Spring to Summer and tubers at the ends of the roots can be eaten raw or roasted.
This species die back to rootstock in late Summer.
Found naturally growing in loamy sand on grassy plains, woodlands, open forest, foothills and slopes in SA, VIC, NSW and TAS. Prefers well drained soil in a full sun to part shade position.
