The Coastal Wattle, Acacia sophorae, is a large bushy shrub growing to about 3.5m with a similar spread, featuring broad elliptic phyllodes and produces golden rod shaped blooms in the Spring. This is a fast growing species that is particularly noted for its resistance to salt spray so it is particularly suited as a screen plant for coastal gardens and is used extensively for sand dune regeneration work.
It is also very popular with insects, bees and nectar seeking birds.
This is a frost hardy species to -7°C and minimal aftercare can determine the final form and shape with some pruning in the early years giving a good response.Any neutral or acid well drained soil is suitable.
