Abies procera - Noble Fir / Red Fir / Larch - 30 seeds

This conifer is evergreen and grows 15 - 30m in its native habitat of the Cascade Mountains and coast range from Washington south to NW California.
 
It has a symmetrical pyramidal to narrow habit with a spire like crown and blue green needle foliage. The bark is greyish brown that becomes thick and deeply furrowed becoming especially reddish when the plates flake off.
 
The seed cones are oblong to cylindrical 10 - 15m x 5 - 6.5cm and are green, red or purple overlaid with green bracts and become brown at maturity.
 
It is best in full sun but will tolerate some shade and is wind firm but not fire tolerant.
 
Makes a great Bonsai specimen and is often used as a Christmas Tree.
This species contains the largest trees ever recorded in the Abies genus.
